TIME Parent Meetings – A Week of Connection & Collaboration!
April 2025
This week, our TIME Tutors opened their classroom doors (and hearts) to connect with parents about the TIME Project – and what a meaningful experience it was!
For those new to the programme: the TIME Project offers Afrikaans literacy and mathematics after-school sessions for Grade R and Grade 1 learners, focused on building strong early literacy and numeracy foundations. These interactive, learner-centred sessions are led by trained tutors and designed to extend classroom learning in fun, engaging ways. Each term, learners take home their resource booklets to share with their families. Parent meetings are held every year, providing practical ideas and tools – including a helpful parent guide booklet – to help caregivers support their children’s learning at home. The TIME Project, which replaced the Ready Steady Read Write programme in 2020, is run in partnership with the amazing Wordworks, Cape Town.
At Formosa, Tutor Anthea Wiese shared how the TIME programme is not just an extension of the classroom, but a joyful, playful, and calm space for children to grow. With classical music, creative games, and hands-on activities, children learn in an environment that celebrates curiosity and fun. Parents were amazed to hear how their children engage – and delighted by the practical tips Anthea gave for supporting learning at home, like folding laundry, counting items, and simply chatting with their kids.
At Kranshoek, Tutor Josephine Jacobs gave a beautiful walkthrough of a typical TIME session – from energetic entrances withsongs or obstacle courses, to storytelling on the carpet, and playful learning games. She explained how TIME builds vocabulary, number skills, and a love for reading and writing – all in a loving, respectful space. One proud mom shared how her daughter now collects her little books and “reads” the pictures at home.
Across both schools, parents left feeling encouraged, empowered, and excited to be part of their children’s learning journeys.
Thank you to our TIME Tutors, the Bitou 10 team, and every parent who joined – working together truly makes a difference. Let’s keep building brighter futures, one playful moment at a time!
