World Read Aloud Day 2025 – A Day to Remember!
February 2025
Bitou 10 Foundation is thrilled to have joined forces with Bitou Municipal Libraries and local schools for this year’s World Read Aloud Day (WRAD), celebrated on February 5th! What an exciting and unforgettable day it was as we partnered with the amazing Nal’ibali to bring the joy of reading to children across our community.
Our incredible TIME Project tutors were at the heart of this celebration:
Josephine at Kranshoek Primary
Chardonay at Wittedrif Primere Skool
Liechen at The Crags Primer
Sooneela, B10F Manager, at Kwanokuthula Primary and Harkerville Primary
With the powerful theme for 2025, “Creating positive experiences for children through reading and stories,” we couldn’t be more excited to be part of this initiative. The children had an absolute blast listening to the special story, What is that? written by Baeletsi Tsatsi and illustrated by Rico. And the best part? It’s available in all 11 official South African languages!
Reading aloud is more than just an activity. As Nal’ibali says, “Literacy is not a luxury; it’s a right and a responsibility.” By sharing stories in languages children understand, we give them the foundation for success in all subjects, developing their imagination, vocabulary, and love for reading.
We saw first-hand how much the children enjoyed the day, as their faces lit up with excitement and wonder. This initiative is not only about World Read Aloud Day but about creating a culture of reading that lasts long after February 5th.
At Bitou 10, we’re proud to be part of this movement to help spark children’s potential through the magic of storytelling. We encourage YOU to join us by continuing to spread the joy of reading every day.
